Indore’s Govt Dental College To Introduce 3D Printing For Affordable Dentures & Jaw Reconstruction

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a first for the state, Indore’s Government Dental College is set to introduce advanced 3D printing technology for dentures and jaw reconstruction. This pioneering initiative will revolutionise dental care by providing highly precise and customised prosthetics at an affordable cost.

The new technology will benefit patients who require dentures, implants, or jaw reconstruction but cannot afford expensive private treatment. To start this state-of-the-art facility, the college has submitted a proposal to the stategovernment, seeking Rs 1.5 crore for equipment.

The college is also focusing on Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology, which is expected to be integrated within the next six months.  Principal Dr Alka Gupta said that while Rs 1 crore has already been received for the project, an additional Rs 50 lakh is needed to establish a metal milling facility. This addition will enhance the precision and durability of dental implants and prosthetics, making treatments more efficient and long-lasting. The college is also in the process of acquiring a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) machine which will provide advanced 3D imaging for accurate diagnosis.

Tenders for procurement have already been floated, and once installed, the CBCT machine will significantly improve the detection of cavities, fractures, and nerve positioning, leading to better treatment planning and outcomes. For overall patient care, the college has also installed 75 new dental chairs and an Orthopantomogram (OPG) machine which captures detailed panoramic X-rays of the mouth, aiding in comprehensive treatment.
