The daily COVID-19 positive cases rose from 232 on February 8 to 285 on February 11, recording 23% surge in fresh cases. Since February 8, Gujarat is witnessing upward trend for the first time since the Diwali surge.
Analysis of the daily cases reveals that 74% of the 285 cases were recorded from eight municipal corporation areas. February 11 recorded a 14-day high for Rajkot, a seven-day high for Surat, and a four-day high for Vadodara and Ahmedabad cities.
The weekly average share of the municipal corporations is 71%, revealed the analysis. Experts said that the cases have come down after a lot of efforts, and it’s still not the time to throw caution to the wind.
“We are passing through a crucial phase of the fight against COVID-19, and one must not let their guards down,” said Dr Manoj Vithlani, an internal medicine expert. “The motto of SMS – social distancing, mask and sanitizing – should be followed strictly. One must avoid unnecessary meets or relax just yet about the reduction in cases to ensure that the gains of the past couple of months are not lost.”
On a positive note, the cases have remained concentrated in urban areas. The state health department said that 13 districts out of 33 recorded zero cases. As of Thursday evening, two districts — Porbandar and Dang had zero active cases.
