Giles Shield: Vasif Shaikh Sparkles In NG Vartak’s Victory Over Abhinav Vidya Mandir, Borivali

Vasif Shaikh’s brilliant all-round effort powered NG Vartak, Virar to a 140-run victory against Abhibav Vidya Mandir, Borivali in the MSSA Giles Shield match at New Era, Azad Maidan.

Batting first, the Virar team scored 234 in 42.5 overs. Opener and right-handed batter, Vasif dominated all through with his stellar batting performance of 96 in 118 balls which included 11 fours. His partner at the other end, Parth Devalekar contributed with 41. Siddharth on the other hand shone with the ball, snapping up (7-50) in 16.5 overs. In reply, the Borivali team only managed a paltry 94 in 31.1 overs. This time around, Vasif spun a web with his tremendous bowling snapping up a great four wicket haul, (4-35) in his 10 overs spell thus grabbing the Man of the Match award, an SG- MSSA voucher of Rs 2,000.

In another match, New Horizon Public School beat Arya Vidya Mandir, Bandra West by seven wickets at Western Railway Cross Maidan. Batting first, AVM scored 120 all out in 32 overs. Right-handed batter Lakshya Gautam top scored with 55. Off spinner, Sarvil Rane picked a five-wicket haul, (5-22) in 10 overs thus grabbing the Man of the Match award for his great performance with the ball. In reply, the New Horizon outfit chased down their total with ease, finishing with 122-3 in 29 overs. Sarvil remained not out not on 32.

Meanwhile, Convent of Jesus and Mary defeated Vasant Vihar High School by 38 runs at Youth Union, Cross Maidan.

Batting first, Convent of Jesus and Mary scored 113 all out in 31.4 overs. Manav, Darsh and Parth all picked two wickets apiece. In reply, the Vasant Vihar outfit were bowled out for just 75 in 31 overs. They fell like a pack of cards and were unable to recover during the game. Left arm spinner Ajinkya Sule was the star of the show with the ball for the Convent team, bagging a brilliant six wicket haul, (6-26) in 14 overs including 4 maidens. The young bowler stuck to his plan ensuring all the dangerous batters of the opposition unit did not get going with the bat, thus winning the Man of the Match award.

In the final game of the day, Al Barkaat MMI, Kurla beat Navi Mumbai Vidyalaya by a massive 173 runs at Young Zoroastrian, Azad Maidan. Batting first, Al-Barkaat made 287-7 in 43 overs. Yash Singh made 59, Shivam Singh scored 55, Abrar Shaikh remained not out on 49. In reply, Navi Mumbai Vidyalaya were all out for 114 in 35.1 overs. Aditya Pandey grabbed a five-wicket haul, (5-32) in 14 overs with 3 maidens and won the Man of the Match award for his great performance.
