Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A woman successfully thwarted an attempted digital arrest by cyber conmen, due to her awareness of online fraud tactics. The incident took place on Saturday when the woman received a call from fraudsters posing as law enforcement officers.
The conmen falsely claimed that she had been digitally detained in connection with a money laundering investigation. Priya Saxena, a 28-year-old private company employee and daughter of a retired head constable, was targeted by the cyber conmen.
The fraudsters told her that a bank account in her name had been opened in Delhi, which was allegedly involved in money laundering and drug smuggling. When they asked for her cooperation in the investigation, they warned her that she was under “digital detention.”
Recognising the red flags, Priya immediately alerted her father, Gopal Saxena, who promptly contacted Kolar police. Officer Sanjay Soni from Kolar Police Station said that when the cops arrived at Priya’s home, conmen disconnected the video call, revealing their scam.
Priya told police that the conmen had initially called her, then switched to a video call showing a police officer in uniform with a Delhi Police board in the background. They assured her that she was innocent but needed to cooperate. Suspecting a scam, Priya stayed alert and sought help before the situation escalated.
